One year with new knees

One year ago today, I underwent bilateral knee replacement surgery. My surgeon, Dr. Danielle Ponzio at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, did an excellent job with the procedure, and proved to be a tremendously caring person as well.

A year later, I have a fading scar on each knee, and I am able to move around with much less pain and discomfort than I could before the surgery. I am able to straighten them the whole way, bend them pretty deeply, and even get down on my knees to do some weeding in the yard.

The photo on the left was taken two days after my surgery. The one on the right was taken last month on the USS Yorktown in South Carolina.

I asked Kelly to take the Yorktown one specifically to show Dr. Ponzio how well my knees can bend—and boy was she impressed!
